Youth Coalition
The BCC Youth Council is comprised of youth who are residentially entrenched in the Fondren-Westbury community in Houston, Texas. This group has had a vested interest in youth leadership training by One Church at Bethel's Family and Bethel's Global Reach.
To date, members of the BCC Youth Council have dual membership in the Bethel's Youth Leadership Academy, a partnership between Bethel's Global Reach and One Church at Bethel's Family.
Who We Serve
The BCC Youth Coalition is open to students in middle and high school. Prospective members can contact the program coordinator, Jelissa Cunningham for registration information.
What We Do
In its work thus far, Bethel’s Community Coalition and the BCC Youth Council have vowed to play an essential role in decreasing substance use and misuse in the Fondren Southwest community by utilizing prevention efforts, parental and community support, family bonding activities, student prevention programming, youth camps, community distribution of anti-drug material, public service announcements, youth council leadership training, community town hall meetings and other special advocatory events.
The Impact
Students received the opportunity to participate in the 2022 Summer Youth Leadership Academy. One of the major products from the leadership academy was a civil rights bus tour, hosted by Bethel’s Global Reach. Approximately 83 youth participants visited 6 states, 18 black historical sites and toured 2 historically black colleges.
To date, as a result of the tour, several students have been accepted to Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They will receive full-ride scholarships!
